FAQs

Do your splitters support any GNSS system (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, etc.)?

All of our standard products can pass all of the major GNSS frequencies, including GPS L1, L2, and L5, GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou.  These units are also compatible with WAAS antennas and receivers.

What are the various options? What is "Weatherproofing", "Hi-Isolation", "Hermetically Sealed", "EMI Shielding", "Networking- External Power Supply"?

  • Weatherproofed units have a silicone adhesive applied between the aluminum housing, lid, and base, the connector threads, and the power supply connector to prevent water permeation.  Weatherproofed units are indicated by a “W” in the part number.
  • Hi-Isolated units have higher isolation between each output port than our standard amplified products.  With higher isolation between ports, reflected signal is attenuated, preventing potential transmission and interference problems.  Each output port on a Hi-Isolated product’s circuit board is equipped with a π pad attenuator that reduces signal reflection.  Unlike our other splitter options, Hi-Isolated units do not require 50Ω load terminators on unused ports for impedance matching.  Hi-Isolated units are indicated by “HI” in the part number.
  • Hermetically Sealed units have circuit boards with an airtight seal to protect them from the outside environment.  A conformal coat is applied to the circuit board to prevent particulates in the operating environment from damaging electronic components.  Hermetically Sealed units are indicated by “HS” in the part number.

  • EMI Shielding is used to protect the unit from electromagnetic and electrostatic fields.  EMI Shielded parts have gaskets added between the lid, housing, and base, and silicone adhesive is applied to the connector threads and the power supply connector.  Units with EMI Shielding are automatically weatherproofed, so a customer may not select Weatherproofing and EMI Shielding on the same part.  EMI Shielded units are indicated by an “E” in the part number.

  • Networked units power themselves (if active) and a roof antenna using an external power supply such as a standard wall plug. A passive networked unit will not need power to operate but can power a roof antenna or other GPS equipment.  Your external power supply options are the 110VAC North American wall plug (ITA Type A), 220VAC European two prong wall plug (ITA Type C), 240VAC three prong UK configuration (ITA Type G), or the MC28 standard 9-32VDC two pin military connector (MIL-DTL-5015 10SL).  Networked units are indicated by an “N” at the beginning of the part number.  The power supply option is indicated by either “110”, “220”, “240”, or “MC” in the part number.

Does the splitter need an external power supply or can it be powered by my GPS receiver?

Our amplified splitters can be powered by your GPS receiver or other GPS products. The J1 DC Thru port on our non-networked products is designed to pass DC Voltage as well as RF signal. Voltage you supply to the splitter from your GPS receiver may also power your roof antenna.  All of our non-networked splitters are designed to pass standard antenna input voltages from 3.3VDC to 15VDC.  If you need more than 15VDC to power your roof antenna, contact GPS Networking to find out if a customized option may be available.

What are your power options?

All of our amplified products will require power to operate.  For the standard non-networked power option, our amplified products can be powered by your GPS receiver by attaching it to the J1 DC Thru port on the amplifier and applying DC Voltage.  In this configuration, an active roof antenna can also be powered by DC Voltage from your GPS receiver by attaching it to the Antenna port on both our passive and active non-networked products.

Every product with the Networking (External Power Supply) option can also be used to power itself (if active) and your active roof antenna or other GPS products.

If you need to power multiple GPS products using a splitter or you would like to block DC Voltage to a passive roof antenna, contact GPS Networking to find out what custom options are available.

As noted in the previous question, your external power supply options are the 110VAC North American wall plug (ITA Type A), 220VAC European two prong wall plug (ITA Type C), 240VAC three prong UK configuration (ITA Type G), or the MC28 standard 9-32VDC two pin military connector (MIL-DTL-5015 10SL).  Networked units are indicated by an “N” at the beginning of the part number.  The power supply option is indicated by either “110”, “220”, “240”, or “MC” in the part number.
